In the midst of Olympia’s music scene during the early 1990′s, Kathleen Hanna formed a feminist punk band that was characterized by profound lyrics and political awareness. Her music and ideas revolved around non-objectification, consent, and self rights–especially to her body and every other woman’s. After watching a documentary on her and her band Bikini Kill, ‘The Punk Singer’, I have spent a countless number of nights blowing out my speakers and screaming “REBEL GIRL, REBEL GIRL, REBEL GIRL YOU ARE THE QUEEN OF MY WORLD!” to the mirror and into a hair brush. That’s what Kathleen Hanna and her documentary will do to you, there is something so enormously powerful about a woman rocking out on stage and asking all the ladies in the room to the front. Damn, what a queen.

Alongside her were other strong ladies who had enough of societal bullshit. They were a group of independent women who were all seeking one thing in common, and that was to bring feminism back.
